Then a little while latter he gets a call from Rahim Khan, who basically wants him to come to Pakistan, due to his illness. So Amir tells Soraya that he has to go.When he gets to Rahim's apartment he finds out that he is really skinny and very sick.In this part I really like how Amir actually goes back there. But while with Rahim , he learns about Hassan and how he passed away and how he had a son named Sohrab. He then learns that Rahim also wants him to go to Kabul and get the boy from an orphanage and bring him back. With that like any other person he says no,but in the end goes anyway.
While they are in America some time passed since they came to america. Also, Baba's health isn' t doing well, and Amir became a writer and manages to meet a girl Soraya. After a while of barely talking to her, Baba goes to Soraya's dad and asks if Soraya and Amir would marry. The answer was yes, but they had to do it quickly due to the fact that Baba's lung cancer spread to his brain and he wanted Baba to see him get married. In my life I wish personally that my dad could be present at my wedding someday , but I wasn't gifted with that opportunity. Then after the wedding , Amir published his first book and they tried to have kids, but couldn't. In many ways I feel sad for them that they can not have any children, but they could always adopt.

Through this next section Amir and Baba, decide to go to America due to the fact that their home town is under Russian patrol. In my personal opinion I don't know how it would feel if my home town was under patrol. Also they would tell you what to do and if you didn't follow it they would punish you.Another thing that I thought was kind of sad was that no one trusted each other , they would tell on them.Furthermore , I liked the part in the book that Baba stands up for a woman that is a stranger, because it illustrates that he is trying to help/do something about a situation, and not chicken out.
Then in America they find a small apartment that is smaller than there other house. In my life I have moved five times and each house is different , but the move that rocked my world was the one that I moved here from California. This was because in california we had a medium size house with a pool in the back yard and mountains over looking it.I am saying this because when I came here my mom decided to build a house so we had to live in a two bedroom one bathroom apartment for 6-8 months. In that way I can relate to Amir because they came from being rich and then they were kind of poor. While in American Baba gets in a little trouble and Amir has to come to his rescue , because Baba is still adjusting to a new place and doesn't get everything. In the book it starts off taking about this boy Amir and his friend (servant) ,and all the fun times they had when he was growing up.On the other hand it also talks about Amir's dad and the relationship they had was not the best. When I read the part about Baba(Amir's dad)said that if he didn't see Amir being born than he wouldn't believe he was his son ,I thought how I am so lucky that I had a dad that cared for me and didn't say that.Through out the time I had my dad, I don't ever think that I had to work as hard as Amir did to earn his fathers affection. But on the other hand my dad did think highly of Amelia ( one of the girls who taught me in my dance),so in that way I am somewhat like Amir in that way.
Later in the book, Amir finds out a way to wins his fathers affection and that is to win the Kite running tournament. So Amir, wins first place, and after that he goes to find Hassan(the servant )and sees him being beaten up by Assef ( a rich bully),instead of helping Hassan he lets him get beaten and raped. This part makes me so mad , in the way that he is that cowardly that he would rather Hassan get beaten up than help. But the worst part about that is that he than ignored Hassan and lied to everyone else/didn't tell them the truth.Which ends up in the end hurting his dad because Amir ,frames Hassan and his dad ,saying that they stole his new watch and some money. This hurts Baba because he grew up with Hassans father , who was like a second brother to him. Throughout the next part of his journey, pi tells us that while at sea he loses track of time and what day it is.Which in my opinion is very understandable, because he is stranded out at sea. This reminds me of when I was growing up and my family went to this cottage here in Michigan, when we were there everyone was so excited to be there that we didn't even care what time it was and just had fun, this is one of the closed memories I have that is similar to pi's experience.
Another thing that I liked was that he had a plan or a schedule that he followed every day that helped him keep going. In my life I like having a routine because it helped me feel like I can control something in my life and also it makes me feel like I have a purpose.Furthermore, the author describes how pi is catching fish to eat and finds a new and easier way to do it which is by using a net. Catching fish reminds me of when I was at my cottage and I was fishing with my sister and I caught a fish , it scared me a little because it was wiggling around , i didn't know what to do so i screamed and my uncle came running and released it back in the lake for me, but i am better now.The next part that I found interesting and sad at the same time was how he killed sea turtles. I think that was good for him in the way that he can stay alive , but I like turtles. From last I wrote Pi has gone on a journey, one that is not so pleasant. A little while earlier Pi's parents tell him that they are moving to Canada and that they will go by boat. The summer of my Freshman year of high school I lived in California and my dad wanted to take my whole family to Canada. It was so beautiful, but similar to pi I did go on a boat it was called a "Ferry," even though I still have my mom and sister , I feel like I can really relate to Pi in that way.
One of the things that I found to be interesting is that his parents didn't get up and his brother didn't go with him to look and see what is going on.In many ways I feel bad for this poor boy , but what I find kind of inspiring about this boy is that he makes the best out of a poor situation. For example how Pi is stuck in the end with Richard Parker the tiger. In many instances I would have just given up and not found ways around my situation, but he did and he is still having a positive attitude even though he lost all the people that he loves and knows. Another thing that I found very inspirational is that he found a way to make a place where he can sleep.Once I heard that he got sleep, and that he was sleeping in this tent like thing , this reminded me of when I was little my family used to go camping a lot in the summer with family and friends. Finally , I like how much courage he showed while he was killing the flying fish , because it makes me think that if i was in that situation how I wouldn't have done that because I wouldn't like to take a life. Through the next section that I have read Pi is talking about a time where his dad took him and his brother to see a lion and how it is dangerous. Also i think it was good of his father to educate him about how animals are very dangerous and not to get into their territory. But I think personally that the dad should have found a different way to do that instead of showing him at that age what it was like.Another thing that was interesting was that when he was at that place with his parents and he saw different churches on their own hills , it thought that this reminded me of when I was in California and when I was going to church ;on all these different mountains i saw all these temples ,mosques and other churches and then we came to ours. One of the things that i thought was not a thing that a priest should do was that they do not make little kids feel bad about what they believe , maybe when they get older they will decide what religion that they like the best after they get better educated on what each of them have and also i think it was funny that his brother in a way teased him about what the priest said, why i think that he like all the other siblings like to tease their siblings, I have an older sibling that is older than me that enjoyed doing the same thing.
This book starts off talking about how this boy (the main character) Piscine Molitor Patel or Pi for short. while I was reading a couple parts of this boys life reminds me of some similar experiences in my life while was growing up.One of those experiences was how Pi's dad is a Zoo keeper and how while he was growing up he would love looking at all those animals, well this relates to my life in the way that when I was little we live near to a Zoo and I was like Pi always so entranced by seeing those animals.
Another experience that can be corresponding with mine is how he is at school and the other people make fun of his name because they don't really know how to say it , and the teachers join in. In my life it was similar but the way that I differed was that I was made fun of for a different reason not my name , they made fun of the way I dressed and how I wasn't that bright in school. But like him , I learned to deal with it and find a way around it.Furthermore, Pi takes about seeing his teacher at the Zoo , originally I thought that this was going to be an inspirational time with his teacher but in my own interpretation , I feel like the teacher is trying to impose his views on Pi and he shouldn't have done that because Pi in my opinion has the right to have his own religious beliefs. In this last section of the book , I think it is really interesting how when they were planning their prank, Miles dad agreed to participate in this prank. This is because I thought that parents don't usually help their children get in to trouble. But as we learn it turned out to be a successful.
Another thing that I thought was so amazing was how Miles, Colonel, and Takumi all come up with how Alaska dies, which is due to her wanting to put flowers at her mother's grave site. In someways I think that Alaska should have waited for one of her friends to drive her because then she wouldn't have died. One part that I am puzzled over is, why didn't she put flowers on her mothers grave any other time besides then? Personally, I think that she could have done it other times. Also I think in the end it is good that Miles and Colonel forgive and let go their guilt for Alaska's death and they live on. Throughout this book I have gotten to know the characters and relate their experiences with mine and I think that overall it is a great book. Miles character grows on you and in my opinion I think that we can see how when something happens to him it hurts .This is demonstrated in the way that nothing is the same once Alaska dies ,the Colonel and Miles illustrate this because they lash out at each other a lot.Overall, I think that the book was good. In this section in the book, this is primarily where Miles and Chip(colonel) are devastated that Alaska is dead. Similar to their experience I had a lot of emotions rolling through my body all at once when my dad passed and I can relate/sympathize with them. The thing that I have a hard time with is why do people when they are hurting lash out at other people instead of thinking about what the other person might be feeling? In my personal experience I don't really know the answer but I have always been puzzled with that. This is wonderfully portrayed in the way that the author describes all the emotional roller coasters these guys have gone through.
With that said the things that I disliked about the last section was that it seemed to go on and I thought that it was well written but a little to slow for my liking. On the other hand I thought that the author did an amazing job with making you question if Alaska is actually dead and the approaches that they took in trying to find out why she died . Then we learn that Miles has been ignoring Lara and that she is hurt about what has happened between Alaska and Miles before her death. So I think that it is totally cute how Miles gets enough courage to say sorry and make it all better. Also I think it is interesting that they decide to do another prank after almost getting caught with the first one. After the Barn Prank , we learn that Miles and Lara begin dating. In my opinion I liked how the author made them date , but I thought that he should go for a more out going girl. This is because basically in this part of the book, have trouble talking to each other.Another thing that I enjoyed was that the prank that they pulled on Kevin was really funny. There is one thing that I disagree with is how Alaska is drunk and kisses miles, when she has a boyfriend.
Furthermore , we learn that Alaska gets in a car accident and dies. This was really surprising that she did that because I thought that she would possibly die some other way. Also, in my opinion she was to young to die,and with that fact it makes it difficult to understand what everyone in the book is feeling because I lost my dad and not a friend. The author did a good job with portraying everyone's emotions on the day that they found out that she died.My experiences with my dad's death were emotion ,just like that of everyone who knew Alaska. Over then weeks that followed Miles tells us how he feels all this emotion after she is gone, this is illustrating how he really liked her. Something I have payed attention to is that Miles and the Colonel were feeling guilty for something that they clearly didn't do.They were smart to clean out her room, because I predict that they are going to find something that tells them why she did that. |
